How to choose a trim size
Start with your category: look at ten recent bestsellers in your genre and measure them. Readers have expectations, and booksellers shelve by size.
- Fiction: 5 x 8, 5.25 x 8, 5.5 x 8.5 or 6 x 9 in.
- Nonfiction and memoir: 5.5 x 8.5 or 6 x 9 in; 6.14 x 9.21 in for hardcover nonfiction.
- Workbooks, textbooks, cookbooks: 7 x 10, 7.5 x 9.25, 8 x 10 or 8.5 x 11 in.
- Picture books: 8.5 x 8.5, 8 x 10, or landscape 10 x 8 in.
