How it works
The estimate models a typical serif body font: average character width of 0.46 em, leading of 130%, comfortable margins that widen with page count, chapter openings every few thousand words, and 10–12 pages of front and back matter.
Real books vary by ±10–15%: short paragraphs and dialogue use more pages; dense nonfiction fewer. For an exact count, typeset one chapter in your final template and scale up.
