How it works

Spine width is the page count multiplied by the thickness of one page. This calculator uses the per-page factors KDP publishes: 0.002252 in for white paper, 0.0025 in for cream, 0.002252 in for standard colour and 0.002347 in for premium colour.

The full cover is bleed + back + spine + front + bleed wide and trim height + 2 × bleed tall. The downloadable SVG is drawn at true size, so you can place it on a guide layer in Affinity, Illustrator, Photoshop or Canva.

IngramSpark and offset printers use their own paper calipers — for final files, always generate the printer's official template from your exact ISBN and page count.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the page count have to be even?
Every leaf has two sides, so a printed book always has an even number of pages. Many POD platforms add blank pages at the end if needed.
When can I put text on the spine?
KDP allows spine text only on books with more than 79 pages. Leave at least 0.0625 in (1.6 mm) on each side of the text.
Does hardcover use the same spine width?
No. Hardcover spines include board thickness and hinge allowance, so they are wider. Use the printer's hardcover template.
